I designed, created and installed the 2017 Sunset Verandah entry statement for the City of Stirling which was part of the Perth Fringe World festival.

Recycling functional surfboards, they were de-waxed, sanded and painted with deliciously drippy, summery, ice cream and ocean inspired colours. I also hand painted the polystyrene letters, which have since been re-used a few times on other projects. Another surfboard featured hand painted letters and was used as signage on the ticket box office. Hand typography is a skill which I’ve continued to use throughout my career as a designer. I’m glad to see more people are choosing hand painted lettering over digitally printed signage – it adds a more personal and tactile finish to projects.

Working in a festival environment is always such fun and the outcome was an enticing entry which complemented the theme and surrounding environment.
