Contemplating my involvement as curator in the the upcoming @darlingtonartsfestival Sculpture on the Scarp, reminded me about the interventions I sometimes instal on bush walks. These may take the form of builders string, rock arrangements, mark making in the gravel… depending on the location, my mood and what materials I find in my backpack. Any man-made items are removed once the instal is completed. I find these creative interactions and spending time in the natural environment both therapeutic and stimulating. 💚

The bonus of inner-city living is that there’s always something to see and do close by. On the flip side is the constant stream of noise – the nonstop traffic punctuated with backfiring engines and burnouts, wailing sirens, road works, trains…

I’m appreciative of my adventures to the bush, enjoying sounds of gently swaying trees, bird song and nothing much else. These trips are grounding, counteracting city life, helping to maintain equilibrium. 🌿
